Estacaille Genealogy One Name Study
genealogy of the Estacaille (and variant spellings) families around the world
Earlier this week, all seven of 23andMe company’s directors resigned due to frustration over the CEO’s plans to take the company private. According to one of the news story I’ve read, the company has never turned a profit and is burning through money. Not too long ago, October 2023, 23andMe had a security breach leaking user info.
I took the 23andMe DNA test several years ago, drawn by their medical reports & ancestry data. Other than DNA matching a small handful of known cousins + a number of distant cousins that, thanks to a lack of family history on that website, are hard to trace, this particular part of their service was never quality enough to get me to subscribe $$ to any of their services. Even the medical reports left me less than inspired. In my opinion, Ancestry, MyHeritage, FamilyTreeDNA, GEDMatch subscriptions are better bang for your buck when it comes to genealogy research. I’ve since downloaded my data for use on MyHeritage for DNA matching, and I use the data for medical reporting through a subscription to GeneticLifehacks.com – great detailed reports on DNA health. But I still have kept my 23andMe account active so far, always hoping I guess to find that elusive cousin link to my missing biological great-grandfather.
With this latest company news, I starting to think seriously about closing my 23andMe account completely.
