Estacaille Genealogy One Name Study
genealogy of the Estacaille (and variant spellings) families around the world
A few weeks ago I was contacted by a Simpson family researcher, and have met a distant cousin. Family researcher, Jason Millar, is on the trail of his ancestor and the descendants of Jannet Simpson, daughter of William Simpson and Janet Winchester. I haven’t done much research on this branch of my 4th great-grandaunt.
The main research source I have on the Simpson family, outside of my branch, is a book “Cavendish it’s History, it’s People, it’s Founding Families“. This book of family lines, authored by Harold Simpson, lists Janet Simpson as married to Donald Taylor. Website “The Island Register” contains an old Simpson family report created by the late Dave Hunter. This report also lists Janet’s husband as Donald Taylor, with unfortunately no research source info.
Cousin Jason has dug further into DNA matches and census records, and believes that the data in this book, and Dave Hunter’s family report is wrong. What he has found is that her husband is Archibald Taylor, and the children’s names are wrong/mixed up. I’ve included below what Jason has emailed me. You’ll also find his research attached into FamilySearch.org profile G661-WHK for Jannet Simpson, on WikiTree.com, and his tree data on Ancestry.com.

i think I’ve solved the mystery re. Jannet Simpson and her Taylor family. The family listed for her online and familysearch as her husband/kids is her son Donald and his kids.

Me and a Taylor relative have been going thru our matches and i’ve been using my grandma’s matches that have both Taylor/Simpson dna to ID other potential children of Jannet and her husband Archibald Taylor (b. Campbeltown, Scotland…son of Donald Taylor/Marion McBride that arrived in Malpeque PEI in 1770, dna confirms link to his parents).
I’ve found 3 other possible kids so far, really confident of 2, looking into the 3rd. One I am confident of is Donald Taylor b.abt.1800 who was married to a woman named Margaret. 4 of his descendants thru 2 different great grandkids of his have both Taylor/Simpson matches. Donald is living with his fam in Botsford, Westmorland Co. NB on 1851 census (actually taken in Jan.1852). He has daughter ‘Lillace’ b.abt.1839 on that census, and sons: James/George/Archibald/Wm/Alexander just like Jannet on that website and fs.
On that islandregister site, see Jannet’s ‘daughter’ Lillian mentioned m. to Robert Goodwin, living in Baie-Verte NB….Donald/Margaret above had daughter ‘Lillace’ b.abt.1839 per census remember:

Liliace Taylor b.1836 on her stone, married to Robert Goodwin, died&buried in Baie-Verte, NB…so that has to be Donald’s daughter, Jannet was dead by 1836. The 5boys mentioned on that islandregister site as her sons are all the names of Donald’s sons like I said. It’s the wrong info for Jannet, that is her son and grandkids listed, someone was confused when they put that info together.
Let me know if you agree with me on this, I respect your opinion on the Simpson fam.
